Why We Chose Paper Packaging From Day One
When we created Sweet Lounge, we knew we didn’t want to build just another sweet brand wrapped in layers of unnecessary plastic.
From the very beginning, packaging mattered to us.
We wanted Sweet Lounge to feel modern, thoughtful and different from traditional confectionery brands. That meant thinking beyond just flavours and ingredients. It meant looking at the full experience, including what our sweets would actually be packaged in.
That’s why Sweet Lounge launched with paper-based pouches from day one.
At the time, it definitely wasn’t the easiest route. Traditional plastic packaging is still the standard across most of the confectionery industry because it’s cheap, widely available and familiar. But we wanted to challenge that a little.
We felt there was room for a sweet brand that looked more modern, used less unnecessary plastic and still delivered the fun, flavour and nostalgia people expect from great sweets.
For us, packaging is part of the product experience.
We wanted our pouches to feel different when someone picked them up. The soft colours, clean designs and paper texture all became part of what makes Sweet Lounge feel like Sweet Lounge.
Of course, choosing paper packaging came with challenges too.
Food packaging is far more complicated than most people realise. There are lots of things to consider, including:
- freshness
- shelf life
- sealing
- transport durability
- print quality
- food safety requirements
And don't forget the premium costs of paper-based packaging, instead of plastic!
We spent a long time working on packaging that aligned with both our brand vision and the practical realities of confectionery.
But building something different usually takes a little more work.
We know sustainability is a journey, not a finish line, and we’re always looking at ways to improve as we grow. But choosing paper-based packaging from the start was an important decision for us and one that still sits at the heart of the brand today.
Sweet Lounge was built to feel a little more modern, a little less complicated and a lot more fun.
No nonsense.
Just really good sweets.
